Trinny Woodall:

Even a make-up junkie like me can still learn a few tricks as I discovered with Stephen Glass.

Stephen went through my current make-up routine and felt the most important thing for me was to have clear-looking skin.

Two weeks later, I do the foundation and blusher religiously every day.
I will never go out bare-faced again.

Susannah Constantine:

From the moment I walked into his room, his eyes never left my face. No one, not even my most fervent admirer, has looked at me with such intense scrutiny.

Within a few minutes I was putty in this man’s hands

My faith in this lovely man remained firm. He moved around my face with the artistry worthy of a National Gallery painter.

The magical thing about Stephen is that he is a make-up artist for daily life rather than photography.

Stephen’s method is for real women who want to make the best of themselves.

After one and a half hours I felt I had known him for ever.
I have already sent my sister along to him.

Alice Hart-Davis:

Stephen Glass is a make-up maestro.

His job is a world away from the average department store make-up counter

Looking good makes you feel better.

"What makes make-up obvious is wearing something that's foreign to your colouring," says Glass. "You can't paint a glamorous face on someone who can't carry it. You have to know weather the undertone of the skin is yellowy or pinky. Follow that and everything looks better."

The effect is extraordinary. I look elegant and healthy, but not remotely "made-up". On closer inspection, I can see how much make-up there is. It is ten times more complex than my usual make-up, but it looks ten times better.

Back at home, my husband and his brother do a double-take. "You look great," they say. "Have you had your hair done?"

Make-up tips

Do

Test your foundation in daylight and choose something as close as possible to your neck colour.

Consider the shape of your face. Do some features need emphasising, or minimising?

Use a special eyelid base to prevent eyeshadow from smudging.

Accept your colouring and work with it. Blues, lilacs and greys work well on green eyes, greens look good on blue eyes. Brown eyes suit most colours.

Don't

Choose a foundation that's darker than your skin tone.

Get stuck in a rut. Try gentle experiments to see what suits you.

Choose a lipstick because it looks great on your best friend.

Always wear the same colours.

Just follow fashion. What suits you or what flatters you is a far better option.
